Infrastructure spending boost for 2012 – 2015
- Added 21/12/2011
Despite media talk of difficult times ahead of us, BSV are passionately optimistic about the future based on the funds recently released for major infrastructure projects.
In the last few weeks we have seen announcements granting £5b worth of public funds to be spent on building roads, power station and rail links. This is the latest effort from Chancellor George Osbourne to stimulate economic growth and create more jobs.
Amongst the 40 or so projects given the green light in the last few months are the TransPennine express line between Leeds and Manchester, a Metro system in Newcastle and improvements to the M25, M3 and M56.
It is widely documented that government spending on Infrastructure, Engineering and Construction projects stimulates the economy in many areas. Apart from the jobs created to design, build and maintain these projects, it is estimated that for every £100m of government capital invested on Engineering and Construction projects creates a further 1400 jobs in the wider economy.
